Coral Gables Neighborhood Overview

About Coral Gables

Welcome to the allure and opulence of Coral Gables. With its stunning and appealing Mediterranean-style architecture, it has earned the distinction of being called “The City Beautiful,” from the vision of its developer, George Merrick, back in the 1920s.

In 1925, George Merrick created the nation’s first fully-planned community, designed with exclusive residences showcased with lush vegetation and tropical foliage, a commercial area to become a center for international business, and a city that offers every service and amenity for the residents to define living well. Coral Gables living is recognizably the unsurpassed masterpiece of South Florida with something to offer each and every elite member of the community. All of this results in why Coral Gables has been voted numerous times in the “Top Ten List of Places to Live in the United States.”

It was in the same year of the founding of Coral Gables, 1925, that the city was selected as the home of the University of Miami, on 240 acres just west of US1 and two miles south of downtown Coral Gables.

The original blueprint was planned with lush, green canopies of oak, mahogany, and banyan trees embracing the streets, and the traditional, stylistic features that came to be Coral Gables homes. There are six different and distinct sections within the community: the Florida Pioneer Village, full of rustic-style charm; the French 18th Century Village; the French Normandy Village, which boasts the magnificent architecture of that era; the Dutch South African Village; the Italian Village; and the Chinese Village, which all hold their own styles of Gables luxury homes.

With its time-honored tradition of maintaining its affluence and grandeur, Coral Gables has undoubtedly summoned the Rich and Famous to select a luxury property in one of the many areas. Coral Gables luxury homes have seen famous residents and sports celebrities such as Pat Riley, Alonzo Mourning, Antoine Walker, Alex Rodriguez, Dave Barry, Helio Castroneves, and a long list of chief executives of large companies, and cruise lines, through the years. With the luxury housing market, ranging anywhere from $1 Million and upwards, you can be guaranteed that what you are searching for is attainable in Coral Gables.
